Perisan leopard (Panthera pardus tulliana)

The leopard subspecies Panthera pardus tulliana includes P. p. cis-caucasica and P. p. saxicolor. The previously existing subspecies P. p. saxicolor was listed as Endangered in the IUCN Red List. It is thought to still occur in Dagestan in the Greater Caucasus, in Georgia, Armenia (south-western and southern parts), Azerbaijan, Iran (except the vast deserts of Desht-e-Kevir and Desht-e-Lut in central and eastern parts), Turkey (northeast, east and southeast), Turkmenistan and Afghanistan (central, north-eastern and northern parts). The stronghold of the leopard in the Middle East is in Iran. The Persian leopard was estimated to number around 871-1,290 individuals and to occur at very low densities.
