Leopard
Amur leopard (Panthera pardus orientalis)
The leopard subspecies Panthera pardus orientalis does include the former subspecies P. p. japonensis. The leopards inhabiting China and Russia are however considered as a seperate management unit. The former subspecies Panthera pardus orientalis (without including P. p. japonensis) was assessed as Critically Endangered in the IUCN Red List. There are probably fewer than 40 individuals left in the south western Primorye region (Russia) and the north east of China. Records from China have recently increased. Amur leopards were photographed by camera traps in Wangqing and Hunchun, east Jilin Province. The status on the Korean peninsula is unknown.
