Notes on the distribution and behaviour of three small wild cats in Sri Lanka
2003  Full Book

Three small wild cats are found on the island of Sri Lanka: the Indian fishing cat (Felis {Prionailurus} viverrina), the Sri Lankan jungle cat (F. chaus kelaarti), and the Sri Lankan rusty-spotted cat (F. {P.} rubignosa phillipsi, F. {P}. r. koladivius ). The former two species range in body size from 6-15 kg. The latter species is the smallest wild cat in the world, weighing only 1.1-1.6 kg (Nowak 1999, Worah 1990). Very little is known about the behaviour, ecology or distribution of these three cats in the wild. During the course of a survey of nocturnal primates, slender lorises (Loris tardigradus and L. lydekkerianus) in Sri Lanka, it was possible to take systematic notes on the wild cats whenever they were seen. This report presents a summary of these sightings.
