Man eating lions...a dental link
2000  Journal of the American Association of Forensic Dentists (24): 1-3

The worse case of man eating lions occurred in East Africa in 1898. Two manelss male lions, over a period of 9 months, systematically attacked the camps of British railroad workers, dragging off at least 135 men and eating them. One of the lions had fractured and abscessed lower teeth, peridontal disease and mal-positioned occlusion. Since these lion's dentitions were diseased and probably not able to comfortably exert sufficent pressure to kill game, humans became an ideal target due to their large numbers, close proximity, poor defenses and ùsoftù consistency when being killed and eaten.
