Tinjauan Terhadap Beberapa Aspek Perlaku dan Adaptasi Jaguar (_Panthera onca_ Linnaeus)
2001  Full Book

The increasing rarity of a variety of animals becomes a challenge for scientists who are trying to study them. It is directly related to the behaviour of the animal itself, which is closely linked to the environment (habitat), the weather (climate), the availability of food/prey, temperature and other factors that directly or indirectly affect the survival of these animals. Jaguar is one of the many endangered species. Although originating from the Americas, the jaguar has now spread to many countries in breeding and conservation efforts, so it is necessary to know some aspects of the behaviour of jaguars related to its adaptation pattern. The behaviour is a manifestation of some of the activities in response to stimuli individuals obtained both from within and from outside. The behaviour shown by jaguars relates to their status as Felidae, and their status as predators. This paper aims to study several aspects of the behaviour of jaguars and several patterns of adaptation to their habitat. The jaguar's behaviour is linked to structural, physiological, and behavioural adaptations, so that the jaguar can perform all activities perfectly. The jaguar's ability to run and climb is aided by the structural adaptation of its legs and its digitigrade gait. The large head, strong fangs, powerful jaw and sharp claws are a structural adaptation to its prey. The limited activity during the winter is a form of physiological adaptation to temperature.
