John Polisar member since 2009
My work includes: sustainable livelihoods strategies linked to conservation commitments; reduction of human-jaguar conflicts; protected area vigilance; investigations in illegal trade in jaguar parts; adaptive management monitoring, and the unity of jaguar, prey, and plant ecology. This includes three decades advancing human-wildlife coexistence in the Neotropics; sixteen years alliances with indigenous territories; and work in wilderness, ranches, and environmental diplomacy. Between 2007-2020 I coordinated the Wildlife Conservation Society’s (WCS) Jaguar Conservation Program (southern Mexico-northern Paraguay). More recently, I have helped propel the range wide 2030 Jaguar Conservation Initiative. My expertise lays in Mesoamerica, the Chaco, the Amazon, and the USA.
