Graduated as veterinarian from Faculdade de Medicina Veterinária, Universidade Técnica de Lisboa (FMV-UTL) in 2000. Completed the MSc. in Wild Animal Health at the University of London (Royal Veterinary College / Institute of Zoology) in 2001. Wildlife veterinary officer for the Okavango Lion Conservation Program, Botswana, 2001-2007. Coordinator for captive breeding and ex situ conservation, Action Plan for the Conservation of the Iberian lynx (Lynx pardinus, Portugal) from 2003 to 2009. Technical consultant for Águas do Algarve S.A. for the planning, construction and programming of the National Breeding Centre for Iberian Lynxes (CNRLI) 2007-2009. Director, National Breeding Centre for Iberian Lynxes (CNRLI) 2009-current. Iberian Lynx Ex Situ Conservation Program coordinator, 2013-14, 2020-current.
