II International Seminar and Workshop on the Conservation of the Iberian Lynx, 15-17 Dec 2004, Córdoba, Spain. Meeting report.

IUCN/SSC Cat Specialist Group: 1-5.

Two years after the first seminar on the conservation of the Iberian lynx in Andújar, Spain (29-31 October 2002), a follow-up meeting took place in Córdoba on 15-17 December 2004. The main objectives of this meeting were to review the status of the remnant populations and the progress made since the first conference, and to discuss the future challenges to conserve the Critically Endangered Iberian lynx. The goal was that GOs, NGOs and scientists working on the conservation of the Iberian lynx would inform each other on their approaches and activities, discuss problems and possible solutions, and hence work towards a comprehensive conservation strategy for the Iberian lynx. During the first day, representatives from different institutions summarised the state of the art. During the second day, six working groups addressed specific questions, and the last day was dedicated to the compilation of the information and opinions. It was suggested that another conference with international participation to review the conservation of the Iberian lynx should be hold again in two years.

II International Seminar and Workshop on the Conservation of the Iberian Lynx.  Conclusions: 1-4. 2004.
Two years after the celebration of the I International Seminar on the Iberian Lynx in Andújar (Jaén) a revision and update of the status of the species was suggested, as well as of the measures that were carried out from different sides since then. The following conclusions and recommendations were derived from the participants of the II International Seminar and Workshop in Córdoba. (Portuguese translation by Pedro Sarmento)

The IUCN/SSC Red List Assessment, Reintroduction Guidelines and the Iberian Lynx.

II International Seminar and Workshop on the Conservation of the Iberian Lynx: 1-5. 2004.

The Red List of the Species Survival Commission of the World Conservation Union (IUCN) is the world's leading authority to judge the conservation status of animal and plant species. Species are classified according to a sincere assessment of the status of the population(s) into categories of increasing threat of extinction. As the first cat species ever, the Iberian lynx (Lynx pardinus) was up-listed into "Critically Endangered" in 2002. The Red List assessment, analysing the status of a species, can also be considered when developing conservation strategies, as it classifies a species according to a complex list of biological criteria. These criteria allow illustrating different possible recovery scenarios and can therefore be used to develop a basic recovery strategy.

1-4. 2004.

The "Iberian Lynx Conservation Compendium" is a library and forum providing a collection of information, data, documents, maps and other material relevant for the conservation of the Iberian lynx Lynx pardinus. It provides all relevant scientific baseline information, but also popular material, news and public political documents. It is a tool to share knowledge and experience and to manage the wealth of information.
