Howard has passed away on Sunday, 4 September 2022. He has been a dear colleague and friend and a Cat Specialist Group member since 1986. In the 1970’s, Dr. George Schaller, Brazilian cooperator Dr. Peter Crawshaw, and Howard conducted the world’s first comprehensive and ecological study of wild jaguars in the Brazilian Pantanal. He has last served as the Deputy Executive Director, Conservation Science Division and Senior Director, of the Jaguar Program at the conservation organisation Panthera. Howard has been inspirational to many biologists. We lose a great conservationist, and Howard will be greatly missed.
