In the framework of the African Carnivore Initiative – a joint Initiative of the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS) and Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) – the Cat Specialist Group has developed

This Roadmap provides a compilation of available information on the status of the leopard in Africa, a review of threats and a proposal for a conservation programme. This information is important for the discussion on leopard management and conservation within the ACI Range States. The Roadmap contributes to the implementation of CITES Conference of Parties Decisions 18.254 and 18.255 and CMS Conference of the Parties Decision 13.96(a) and 13.97. The Guidelines contain a collection of concepts, best practice experiences and recommendations in regard to lion conservation in Africa. They provide practical guidance for the survey, conservation and management of lion populations in Africa, to facilitate the implementation of the Regional Conservation Strategies and National or Regional Action Plans. The Guidelines contribute to the implementation of CITES Conference of Parties Decision 17.241 and CMS Conference of the Parties Decision 12.67. Also available in French.
