I specialize in conservation conflict and human-wildlife conflict, with over 20 years’ experience in leading conflict resolution initiatives around the globe. I specialise in conflict analysis, negotiation, mediation, policy and training. My work focusses on interdisciplinary approaches to addressing underlying social causes of conflict and designing community-led solutions. I am the founding Chair of the IUCN SSC Human-Wildlife Conflict Task Force, as well as Senior Advisor to The World Bank’s Global Wildlife Program, Senior Research Fellow at the University of Oxford, and I was previously Head of Conservation Science at Chester Zoo. I am an interdisciplinary scientist, whose original training was in zoology before she specialised in conservation social sciences, and further trained in conflict studies and dispute and multilateral negotiation.
