Associate professor of environmental law, Tilburg University, the Netherlands; extraordinary associate professor of law, North-West University, South Africa. Research focus on role of (inter)national law in biodiversity conservation, restoration and sustainable use. Cat-specific work inter alia on international law and lion conservation, leopard trophy export quotas, and Balkan lynx conservation. General research topics include protected areas, connectivity, invasive alien species, human-wildlife conflicts, megafauna restoration, and conservation translocations. Regular consultant for international entities (e.g., Bern Convention on European Wildlife, Convention on Migratory Species), government agencies and NGOs. Geographic scope of work is global, thus far with emphasis on Europe and Africa.
