Member since 2005.
I have been a member of the Board of the Netherlands Committee for IUCN since 1987 and have been a Chair of the Committee between 1990 and 2000 and a Vice Chair from 2000 until 2003. Since 2003, I have been a member of the Supervisory Board of IUCN NL and Biodiversity Advisor to the daily board and IUCN Council member from 2008-2021. I am a member of the IUCN Species Survival Commission, especially the Sustainable Use Specialist Group, the Sirenia Specialist Group and Cat Specialist Group. I am also a member of the African Lion Working Group, which is affiliated with the IUCN Cat Specialist Group, and have contributed to the Ecosystem Management Group for several years. I have supervised more than 41 PhD students and more than 372 Master students in Africa and Asia doing research on large cats and human wildlife conflicts, with a focus on the African lion. I am currently guest professor at Antwerp University and Leiden University and a Chair of the Leo foundation.
