Iberian lynx: I was involved in the 2002-2004 Iberian lynx status survey in Portugal. Following this survey, I was involved in assessing the conditions for Iberian lynx reintroductions in Portugal (2010-2012), and coordinated CIBIO/inBIO’s team, under a contract to monitor reintroduced individuals in Portugal (2015-2017). I still work closely with the Spanish teams leading the Iberian lynx conservation program, aiding in the analysis of monitoring data to assess vital rates of this species’ populations.
European wildcat: I developed my MSc thesis in conservation biology and ecology of the European wildcat in Portugal (2004-2006). Since then, I continued deeply involved in the research of this species’ ecology and conservation biology, particularly to support conservation actions, and have supervised 4 MSc thesis on this species. I am also an active member of the Eurowildcat network, and have co-coordinated the IUCN’s red list status assessment for the Iberian metapopulation.
Other felids: In recent years I have been involved in conservation biology research initiatives targeting other felids both in Africa (e.g. leopard, cheetah, serval) and in Europe (Eurasian lynx).
