Malaysia's wild tiger _Panthera tigris_ population may be as high as 500, making it one of the most significant countries globally for tiger conservation. However, poaching and commercial trade poses an urgent and critical threat; having the potential to cause the greatest damage in the shortest span of time. While Malaysia has adequate legislation, implementation and enforcement of the laws are hampered by the lack of suitable convictions to serve as deterrents.
