Andresen, L.
The influence of humans on the ecology of cheetah in the Limpopo National Park, Mozambique
2014  Full Book

The aim of the project was to quantify cheetah population status and ecology in the Limpopo National Park, Mozambique. Objectives: (1) Determine the proportion of area occupied and relative population density of cheetah; (2) identify how a site occupancy modeling technique could be used for targeted monitoring of less-known cheetah populations; and (3) quantify the impacts of bushmeat hunting and human settlements on cheetah habitat selection. It was found that anthropogenic factors contributed more to cheetah occurrence than biotic factors at the home range scale. Human impacts are both direct and indirect. Cheetahs may have shifted their temporal activity patterns to be more nocturnal, thereby reducing contact with bushmeat poachers and dogs.
