Pursuing the spectacled bear footprint at the Huiquilla's Forest, Northern Peruvian Yungas
2012  International Bear News (21): 45-47

Huiquilla is a Private Conservation Area (1140 ha), near to Choct mal village (L¢nguita District). A study was performed, searching for the spectacled bear with transects and camera traps. Although the camera traps were not able to clearly record the spectacled bear's presence, they identified some species that could comprise their diet such as mountain paca (_Cuniculus taczanowskii_) and northern Pudu or Sachacabra (_Pudu mephistophiles_), Andean guan (_Penelope montagnii_) and Tinamous (_Crypturellus spp._). Potential competitors were also recorded: mountain puma (_Puma concolor_) and margay (_Leopardus wiedii_).
