2013 game census for Hwange National Park and surrounding areas

During the census, 44 species were seen. Among the rarer species were 1 caracal and 7 cheetahs. Although 8 cheetah were seen in 2010, cheetah sightings are relatively rare. There have been only 4 other cheetah counted since 2006, and the count has generally been 0 or just a few. On one of the two days of the census, a pride of 22 lion came to Masuma Dam, including 14 young lion. In total, the count included 112 lions, and 11 leopards. The report lists the data on selected species since 1972. For 2013, the data is provided for the individual sub-areas.
