Goa, a tiny emerald land well known for its beautiful beaches on the west coast of India, was liberated from Portuguese rule in 1961. It was a part of Union Territory of Goa, Daman & Diu until1987 when it was carved out to form a separate state. Goa covers an area of 3702 sq km and comprises two revenue districts: North Goa and South Goa. Goa is bounded by the state of Maharashtra in the north, Karnataka in the east and south and the Arabian sea in the west. |
