The following mammals larger than the silver fox (_Vulpes chama_) were considered to be endangered within South and South West Africa - Cape mountain zebra (_Equus zebra zebra_); Hartmann's mountain zebra (_Equus zebra hartmannae_); black rhinoceros (_Diceros bicornis_); reedbuck (_Redunca arundinum_); red lechwe (_Kobus leche_); puku (_Kobus vardoni_) - probably extinct in South Africa; sable (_Hippotragus niger_); roan antelope (_Hippotragus equinus_); bontebok (_Damaliscus dorcas dorcas_); tssessebe (_Damaliscus lunatus_); black-faced impala (_Aepyceros melampus petersi_); oribi (_Ourebi ourebi_); suni/Livingstone's antelope (_Neotragus moschatus_); pangolin (_Manis temminckii_); leopard (_Panthera pardus_); cheetah (_Acinonyx jubatus_); brown hyaena (_Hyaena brunnea_).
