Action Plan for the Protection of the European Wildcat in Germany - Protection concept for a target species of the trans-regional network of forest habitats The action plan's goal is to double the area inhabited by wildcats (_Felis s. silvestris_) in Germany and the linking of wildcat populations throughout Germany and the neighbouring countries until the year 2019. To reach this goal within the next ten years it is essential to counteract the major threats endangering the wildcat populations in their distribution range. The study identified six major threats to European wildcats in Germany: habitat fragmentation, habitat loss, mortality, hybridisation, knowledge deficits on wildcat ecology and lacking public awareness of wildcat protection needs. Applying the "Logical Framework Approach" the study makes proposals how to counteract these threats. It defines six objectives related to the threats identified and suggests detailed targets and activities how to minimize these threats. |
