Although many American ethnic groups revered puma, at present this species has been persecuted without mercy using weapons, poisons, traps and hunting dogs, the arguments for the extermination are usually the same as they have caused the decrease in the distribution of so many other predatory carnivores, the occasional losses to farmers and ranchers or the perception of dangerousness for humans. The farmers have had an ancestral enmity with this species, without understand that the problems are manageable with the adequate implementation of anti-predation strategies. The losses increase when the livestock breeding in wooded areas where the Puma has the opportunity to stalk domestic animals. Not only are they hunted for predation problems, they are also hunted for the illicit sale of skins, Fangs and other parts, and can even be hunted for the consumption of their meat.
