Train accidental deaths of leopards _Panthera pardus_ in Rajaji National Park: a population in threat
2010  World Journal of Zoology (5): 156-161

Large cats are vulnerable to local extinction in fragmented landscapes mainly due to large scope developmental and anthropogenic activities. The present study investigated the unnatural deaths of protected leopard population in the Rajaji National Park, north-west India. Since 1997, four leopards have been killed through train accidents on Haridwar-Dehradun railway track, which passes through the Rajaji National Park area. The mortality rate for males was significantly higher than for females and the greatest numbers of deaths occurred in Kansrao and Motichur forest. The study also highlighted a case history of such death in Motichur forest of the Rajaji National Park.
