The leopard in Caucasus and Armenia | |
2000 Full Book | |
The leopard occurs in the Caucasus since prehistoric times (mid-Holocene, about 5,000 years before present) and co-exists with people throughout this, but its history of rapid disappearance and local extinctions numbers only half-centruy or even less, and no any serious research of this cat had hitherto been undertaken here before the initiation of our leopard project in Armenica in 1999. Distribution of the leopard in Caucasus outside Armenia and in Armenia, both in 19th-early 21st century, is depicted. |
