Der anatolische Leopard ist nicht ausgestorben | |
1990 Series | |
The Anatolian leopard occurs in western Turkey, west of the Persian leopard. The Anatolian subspecies was already thought to be close to extinction in the 1970s, but there were always signs of presence from various parts of Turkey. The definitive proof for its continued existence came in January 1989, when an individual was shot near the city of Beypazari. It was thought for some time that the Samsun-Dag (Priene) National Park hosts a small population, but with its size of 11,000 ha it is too small and also surrounded by an area of high human density. However, the Dzlercamli Wildlife Reserve (1000 km2 has the right size and ample prey, but a proven occurrence of leopard is lacking. |
