Le tourisme cyn‚g‚tique en R‚publique Centrafricaine - Etat des lieux 2008, Bilan critique et Recommandations
2008  Full Book

The Central African Republic undeniably still is a "Big Game" country. Every year, between 100 and 200 western tourists arrive and remove some hundred animals. Hunting areas constitute more than 66000 km2. This sector creates about 1300 local job opportunities, but about 10 times more may live indirectly from these activities, which pose a huge income for the country. A typology of the large geographical areas, where hunting tourism occurs, shows that the northern centre, where a large part of the activities are concentrated, still is the zone with the greatest potential, but at the same time also with the strongest constraints. The potentials in the south-west and in the extreme north of the country is nowadays certainly very small. The difficulties encountered during the mission to access reliable information have greatly detracted from the opportunities for exhaustive syntheses on such essential aspects as i) institutional and legal organization, ii) national zoning on hunting zones (contradictory texts and documents), iii) stakeholders, iv) the nature and management of tax revenue, v) the effective contribution of the sector to national, local, and family economy. Our recommendations go towards a general restructuring of the sector.
