Kaukasus Leopard
2004  Pamphlet

Contrary to previous believes that may already have vanished, a WWF project in 2001 was able to show that about 20 to 30 Caucasus leopards (_Panthera pardus ciscaucasia_) are left in the wild. The skin of the leopard is a sought-after hunting trophy, and farmers perform retaliatory killings. Additionally, uncontrolled hunting of the leopard's prey species destroy its prey base, and the over-use of forests threatens its habitat. WWF is helping to protect existing protected areas, and fighting for the establishment of further ones. WWF helped to set up anti-poaching brigades, and has set up compensation payment programmes to keep farmers from retaliatory killing leopards. Furthermore, education programmes have been created to gain the public for the protection of the leopard.
