Barbaran, F.
Estado del habitat y registros de la presencia del tigre en el area de influencia de la Reserva Provincial Acambuco (Provincia de Salta, Argentina)
2004  Ecosistemas (13): 88-95

In order to contribute to the definition of a management plan for the Acambuco Provincial Reserve, located in the Bolivian Tucumano Forest (Argentine Northwest, S 22§ 10 '3,6 "W 63§ 54' 43,2"), the jaguar feeding sites (_Panthera onca_) were located and mapped, the places where this species was hunted and it was verified if the protected area is in conditions to provide adequate shelter and food, taking into account the environmental impact of the main economic activities of its inhabitants. The slash-and-burn process to install crops, logging without any order and mainly overgrazing, explains that the 22 current subsistence hunting sites, coinciding with the feeding places of the jaguar and that the 7 sites where this species was captured between 1976 and 2001, are all outside the reserve. This allows to conclude that the poor state of conservation of the protected area does not allow the existence of the jaguar within it, so a management plan that covers its entire area of influence must be implemented.
