Big cats, and notably panthers, are very valued animals by public in zoological parks. During many years, they have been mainly observed in tiny cages, poor in all. But today, zoological parks wish for more and more highlighting these animals by offering them more adapted environment, less poor. After seting panthers in classification, describing many anatomic particularities and reviewing their situation in the world, the author develop the most important to know if we want maintain them in good conditions in captivity. She describes, in this way, on the one hand their pathologies and tests to perform during every new introduction, and in the other hand their behavior in natural environment and modifications brought by their life in captivity. The most exhaustive knowledge about this last point will permit to undertake enrichment of their environment.
