2004  Floresta (34): 163-167

The flood plain of ParanĀ  river probably maintain, one of the last considerable populations of neotropical big cats, represented by jaguar (_Panthera onca_) and puma (_Puma concolor_). Large felids depend on the landscape to obtain food and habitat. Fire is a huge natural agent that can change the landscape, modifying flora and fauna species. In the Ilha Grande National Park, fire is widely used, threatining this Conservation Unit and these populations of neotropical felids.
