Young, M.
The boldness of panthers
1904  Journal of the Bombay Natural History Society (15): 727-729

A short time ago I was camping at the village of B.J. near M., in Central India, when _khabar_ was brought to me of two panthers which had killed and eaten a young buffalo belonging to another village about three miles away; so I determined to try and shoot one of them at least. I at once bought two goats and tied them up and sat over one in a _machhaan_; they were both placed in nalas not far from the village, but nothing came near my goat the whole night and I heard no sounds of anything; but in the morning my native _shikari_ told me that the other goat had been killed about 4 a.m., and that one hind leg had been eaten; so the next night I sat over this kill, and had the other goat taken back to the village.
