Rewilding the wilds

Sariska tiger reserve, which was in the limelight for wrong reasons a few years ago, is now catching the public eye because of a unique endeavour for bringing tiger populations back to this area. A tiger was tranquilized in Ranthambhore Tiger Reserve and airlifted to Sariska on 28-06-07. This was followed by translocation of a tigress on 04-07-08. Sariska Tiger Reserve lost its glory when all its tigers were poached out. Questions were raised as to how Sariska still continued to be Tiger Reserve when there were no tigers. There were other issues such as mining in the vicinity of the park, roads passing through the area, and 27 villages with substantial human and cattle population being present inside the park. As such, the plans of translocating tigers to Sariska faced much initial criticism.
