Notes on the first captive born, captive-raised jaguars released into the wild | |
Series | |
In mid-March 2009, two young adult jaguars were released into the transitional Chaco of Paraguay after having spent the totality of their life thus far in captivity. Both jaguars were introduced into a region where female jaguars, and thus reproduction, have not been documented by landowners, locals, and one of the authors for more than 15 years. The ultimate goal of this release, and future releases similar to this, is to use captive-raised animals to promote breeding in jaguars where reproductive activity has not been documented in some time. |
