Sample sizes for minimum viable population estimation
1987  Conservation Biology (1): 72-76

We are concerned that previous MVP simulation studies have not adequately addressed the sampling error associated with stochastic simulations, and thus have inadvertently produced an additional source of uncertainty. We suggest in this short note that most previous studies have used insufficient numbers of replicate simulations for estimating extinction probability, and provide two examples of the dangers of using too small a sample size.
