New records of rare and non-abundant mammal species in Medobory Nature Reserve and its vicinities
2020  Novitates Theriologicae (11): 43-49

The report presents data on 9 rare mammal species that have been recorded in Medobory Nature Reserve and its vicinities for the last seven years. Seven spe-cies are listed in the Red Book of Ukraine: the common hamster (_Cricetus cricetus _L.), the north-ern birch mouse (_Sicista betulina _Pall.), white-toothed (_Crocidura leucodon _Hermann), the wild cat (_Felis silvestris _Schr.), the Eurasian otter (_Lutra lutra _L.), the grey long-eared bat (_Plecotus austriacus _Fischer), and the brown long-eared bat (_Plecotus auritus _L.). The Eurasian beaver (_Castor fiber _L.) and the grey wolf (_Canis lupus _L.) are not included into the Red Book of Ukraine, although they are rare species in the reserve. The northern birch mouse was last recorded in 1994, whereas the wild cat had not been sighted until 2019.
