Is there a reliable attractant for the European wildcat (_Felis silvestris silvestris_ Schreber, 1777)?
2021  Full Book

The European wildcat (_Felis silvestris silvestris_) is one of the most elusive and least investigated carnivores in central Europe, it is scientifically under-researched and less known to the wider public in Croatia. Its evasive lifestyle and nocturnal activity patterns make collecting data on its presence difficult by using methods like direct sightings or life trapping. Therefore, a noninvasive monitoring method of data collection using sensory camera was applied to assess the effectiveness of several attractants for the European wild cat. 14 sensory cameras were randomly placed at 14 different locations within the hunting ground III / 29 "Prolom" for a period of 5 months (31 March 2021 to 01 September 2021). 12 wildcat events were documented and it seems no wild cat appeared to be interested in the selection of attractants used. The limitations of the scent-based attractants used was examined, providing possible explanations on the failure of this kind of attractant.
