Leopard Ecology as Studied by Radio tracking
1982 Conference Proceeding
Three leopards were radio tracked in the northern Serengeti over a total of 12 leopard months. Great care was taken to get and keep the animals easily observable. Comparison was possible with radio tracked lions in precisely the same area at the same time. An adult female leopard occupied a range (probably a territory) of 15.9 km2, 57 % as big as the territory of the largely co-resident lion pride of four females. Leopards fed on a wider range of prey species than lions, with little overlap; separation was mainly on the basis of size. |
