2018  Revista de Arqueolog¡a Hist¢rica Argentina y Latinoamericana (12): 616-643

In this paper, the results of the analysis of archeofaunal remains from the site Fort¡n Algarrobos are presented. The site is located in the rural area close to the city of Carlos Casares, in the western part of Buenos Aires Province. The site was occupied, according to historical data, in the second half of the nineteenth century (1869-1876). The faunal sample analyzed includes skeletal remains recovered from systematic archaeological excavations carried out in recent years, as well as those from a private collection. The zooarchaeological study comprises a quantitative and qualitative analysis of the sample, involving the use of various indices, the survey of different types of anthropic marks and the incidence of natural and taphonomic agents. Thus, it seeks to characterize the diet of the inhabitants of the outpost, to evaluate aspects of its provisioning and to contribute to the identification of various activity areas within the site.
