And now, a G.A.S.P
  Conference Proceeding

A GASP is a program focused on one taxon or animal group for management and propagation using the whole world's zoos and other captive breeding facilities. A GASP provides the means (e.g. the "administrative" structure) for the Regionally coordinated captive breeding programmes. The primary focus of the GASP is on captive propagation programs that can serve as genetic and demographic reservoirs to support survival and/or the recovery of wild populations in the future. The GASP also attempts to identify where and how the captive community can assist with transfer of captive management information and technology to wild populations, and to develop priorities for limited financial support the captive community can provide for the in situ conservation through linking of ex situ and in situ programs.
