Mining Investment and Socio-Environmental Conflict in the high Andean Zone of Lambayeque. Ca¤aris Case and Intervention Proposal

This research is about analyzing the factors which originated and avoid the possibility to determinate social intervention strategies in a socio-environmental problem between Minera Candente Cooper Cor. and the San Juan Bautista de Ca¤aris rural community. In this regard, It was determined that the cause of the conflict is the dispute in using the land and the activities that imply which is mining extraction and the changing of the productive activities of the community. These reasons must have been discussed and not misrepresented with ideological and political positions that interfered in the negotiations between the Company and the community. In addition to this, the negative attitude of the government officials and the mining corporate officials who denied the condition of an indigenous community and according to the officials, the ownership of the land where they have lived.
