Reddy, P.A.
Elucidating population dynamics of tiger (_Panthera tigris tigris_) using DNA-based genetic analysis
2019  Full Book

Empirical data on tiger movement within and between protected areas can be obtained by tracking individual animals, or through genetic data. Advances in DNA technologies have made it possible to obtain and analyse DNA even from minuscule or degraded samples and this has revolutionized research in population and landscape genetics of endangered species. This thesis is a description and discussion of several analyses carried out on both mitochondrial and nuclear DNA data largely obtained from non-invasively collected samples of tigers from across two vast tiger landscapes in India - Central India and the Western Ghats. The aim of these studies is to mainly understand dispersal behaviour of tigers (both contemporary and evolutionary) and to identify landscape features which affect gene flow in this species.
