Embryo cryopreservation and transfer in the domestic cat (Felis catus)
1988  Animal Reproduction and Artificial Insemination

This project was initiated to use the domestic cat (Felis catus) as a universal surrogate for embryos from several species of small and exotic endangered felids. However, the initial technology of frozen-thawed embryo transfer in felids had to be developed first in the domestic cat. Embryo transfer in domestic cats has resulted in live offspring (3-5,9) but no offspring have been produced from embryo transfers with wild cats (1,7). Results of these studies are the first time that the transfer of cryopreserved feline embryos has resulted in live offspring.
