ProblŠmes soulev‚s par une ‚ventuelle r‚introduction du lynx dans les Vosges Problems raised by a possible reintroduction of the Lynx in the Vosges Durch eine eventuelle Reintroduktion des Luchses in die Vogesen aufgeworfene Probleme
1979  Conference Proceeding

The Vosges mountains comprising almost one million hectares, more than half of which are covered with forests, constitute together with the forested mountains of the Palatinat, a favorable ecological entity for the reintroduction of the Lynx, High-altitude mixted fir and beech forests and beech groves give shelter to a significant number of ungulates and fair densities of small and medium-sized mammals, which could easily support a stable Lynx population. Relatively small concentrations and low habitat densities, a limited number of tourists on the summits and a seldom used network of forest roads leave the Lynx undisturbed. In addition, releasing sites, which offer a hunting territory, a secluded spot necessary for reproduction, a forest on a scree or some wind fallen wood at an altitude between 600 and 1300 m within a radius of 5 to 15km, are abundant and easy to find.
