On the edge - dying and living in the Kalahari
2001 Africa Geographic: 60-67
As head of the Kalahari Transfrontier Lion Project, biologist and lion specialist Dr Faul Funston, together with his team, was tasked with gathering vital information on the population ecology of lions in the Kalahari. Previous studies indicated that the lions exhibited unique behavior adapted to the harsh environment, but little information about population dynamics and conservation status was available. Having just finished formulating a conservation management plan, Funston hopes to continue his involvement with lions by developing conservation strategies in other areas in Botswana. |
