Lion genetics
1996  Manuscript

Three populations of African lion (Panthera leo) from Etosha National Park, Bushmanland Game Reserve, and Hluhluwe -Umfolozi Game Reserve are currently being analyzed by the genetics lab at Brookfield Zoo. DNA has been extracted from 120 lions (Bushmanland-18, Etosha-68, Umfolozi-34). Additional samples collected in summer of 1993 are being processed. There are three major objectives for the genetic analysis, each requiring a different technique or combination of techniques.
