Wildlife ecology in the Gir
  (unknown): 92-94

Very little work on wildlife ecology has been done in India in the past, for the men and the facilities have not been available. But during the last three years as a result of the initiative of the Royal Society in the U.K, the World Wildlife Fund, the Smithsonian Institution, the Yale School of Forestry, and the Bombay Natural History Society some significant research has been done in the GIR Sanctuary in Gujarat. The studies have been focused on the relict population of the Asiatic Lion (Panthera leo) whose dwindling numbers has caused world wide concern.
