Feasibility study on a wildcat reintroduction project in Austria
1993 Conference Proceeding
The success or failure of a reintroduction is to be controlled by a scientific side research. Experience from other projects shows, that the expenses for this control amount approx. 3 times the costs for the reintroduction. This side control has to be executed by a neutral institution (independent of project executor). An economic control of Wildcat requires radio telemetry which involves numerous legal problems in Austria. The results of the side control help to recognise and avoid mistakes. In case there is no positive result (reproduction of Wildcats in their natural habitat) within a few years after release, the project should be interrupted. |
