Capped langur (Presbytis piteatus) in the Madhupur National Park
1986 Conference Proceeding
A field team consisting of eight members conducted a census of the Capped Langur of the Madhupur National Park on the 6th and 7th November, 1986. The park was divided into strips which were traversed by the members for counting the langurs. A total of 548 langurs in 98 groups were counted. Group size ranged from 1.21 langurs and average composition was 20.62 % adult male, 26.45 % female, 22.63 % unidentified adult, 18.27 % juvenile and 12.23 % infant i.e. the population included 70 % adult and 30 % young & infant. Tall sal trees with its climber gila lota (Entada scandens) and mixed forest cover were suitable habitats for langur. Infants and youngs were less because of lack of proper habitats. |
