Los felinos silvestres del NE en Mexico - Wildlife cats of northeast Mexico | |
1993 Dumac (15): 5-9 | |
There are six species of felines in Mexico. The biggest are the jaguar (Pantera onca) and the puma or mountain lion (Felis concolor); medium size we can find the ocelot (Felis pardalis), and the wildcat (Felis rufus); the margay (Felis wiedii) and the jaguarundi (Felis yagouaroundi) are the smallest. All these species can still be found in Northeast Mexico. However, as their populations decrease during the last years , their study and protection becomes more urgent. |
