Application of social and market research techniques to wildlife medicinal trade investigations | |
1994 Full Book | |
The report complements a series of national overview studies on medicinal wildlife trade currently being carried out by TRAFFIC Southeast Asia and other studies of the feasibility of using public awareness techniques to influence medicinal use of threatened species being carried out by offices of the TRAFFIC Network. Traditional medicinal practices vary immensely from country to country, and indeed within countries. In addition, the availability of research data relating to traditional medicine is patchy and incomplete for most countries. It is therefore extremely difficult to provide a general view of the availability of information on this subject. The present report, carried out over a limited time period, restricts its attention to Malaysia and Singapore und looks primarily at ethnic Chinese medicine, though information was obtained relating to other traditional medicinal practices employed in these multi-cultural countries. |
